Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Real Madrid, has bought himself a home in the western Turkish resort of Izmir, bringing a further boost for the Portuguese property market.

The news of the footballer’s purchase comes just days after it was confirmed that Hollywood golden couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have also bought themselves a property in the Izmir area. Both Ronaldo and ‘Brangelina’ are reported to have bought through the same international property consultancy.

Ronaldo’s Izmir mansion cost a reported €3.2million and includes seven bedrooms, three living rooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools spread, all spread over 12,000 square metres of land. The precise location of the property has not been disclosed, however, it is believed that it overlooks the city. Ronaldo is apparently planning to use his new Turkish home for holidays.

Izmir is a popular port city, with cultural and historical attractions ,beaches and an international airport. It is popular place for a second home amongst wealthier Turkish people and increasingly the international jet set.

Ronaldo appears to have an eye for a property deal – already he has used his prolific earnings to build a portfolio that includes an $18.5million apartment in Trump Tower in New York, as well as hotels on the island Porto Santo, little sister to his birthplace of Madeira, and in central Madrid. Ronaldo is reportedly both the world’s highest paid team competitor and highest paid football player, having earned $79million in 2014 in pay, reward, and sponsorship. In second place was his opponent Lionel Messi from Argentina.
