Turkey one of the first to have Vodafone’s new mobile phone payment system
Istanbul, 28 February 2012 - At the Mobile World Congress 2012 held in Barcelona in Spain, Vittorio Colao, Vodafone CEO, announced that Turkey is one of five countries to introduce Vodafone's new "Near Field Communications" system which brings a new generation of credit card payments to the mobile phone. Talking about the new system Coloa said “The first launch of the new mobile payment system developed in partnership with Visa will take place in Britain, Germany, Spain, Holland and Turkey by April”. As part of his speech Colao also announced a special package for Turkish farmers and agricultural workers under the name of “The Farmers Club”. Turkey is one of the Vodafone Group’s fastest growing subsidiaries with 18 million Turkish subscribers which makes it the second biggest mobile phone operator in Turkey. As well as the launch of its new Near-Field Communications system Vodafone announced it is increasing its R&D in Turkey to develop solutions for Vodafone’s global networks.
