You hear a lot about property in a lot of places in Turkey, Antalya, Bodrum, Fethiye, Olu Deniz, but you hear comparatively little about property in Dalaman. To say that this is a representation of the quality of its offering in comparison with those listed above though is the falsehood of the century, as the millions of people who flock to Dalaman every year will attest.
In fact, Dalaman is one of the top tourism destinations in Turkey, and was voted as such when ABTA named it the most popular destination in 2008, beating off the top locations in Spain, although Spain was still the top country by a way, Turkey was and is growing far quicker. In places like Dalaman the property market and tourism industry are inextricably linked, because most holiday home buyers have discovered the town while on holiday, and others buy because of the strong holiday rental market.
Tourism is one of the most important industries in Turkey, and currently visitor numbers are growing at a rate of around 12% per year from the current 30 million. This is good for Turkey and destinations like Dalaman, but it is also good for tourists. As tourism is the main industry in Dalaman it is a popular trade for its residents, this equates to plenty of businesses like restaurants, bars and other shops serving the tourist trade.
When buying a property in Dalaman or anywhere abroad, whether it is a holiday home or a fly to let investment (a holiday home that you let out for an income when not in use), we are usually looking for the same core set of pros:
Good Accessibility: While it is not essential for everybody (those who have longer to spend on holiday can have a night in a hotel on the airport trips etc), most of us are looking for a place that is close to an airport, which has flights to an airport close to where we live. So, people in say Fife, Scotland will want to find a destination within an hour of an airport that has regular flights from the airports in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Long Season and no Dead Season: This one is essential for everybody, because when we make the decision to buy a holiday home in Dalaman for example, instead of forking out for holidays as we take them we want to get as much use as possible out of the property. It is for fly to let investors, as they will make more money if they rent out during the season and use it themselves and let their family and friends use it off season, and no one wants to holiday in a ghost town with naught even a shop for a pint of milk.
Plenty of Shops, Restaurants, Bars and things to do: Of course this is a must for everyone. For family holidays we need plenty for the kids to do, and plenty of restaurants and bars to avoid cooking, and to sample the local cuisine and drinks.
Dalaman has its own international airport, which is one of the best served in Turkey, with regular flights from airports across the UK, Ireland and Europe, and new flights being added all the time. It also has 300 days of Mediterranean sunshine per year and one of the widest selections of bars and restaurants in Turkey. It also has a gorgeous marina and plenty to do for all the family, from relaxing by the beach and boat trips, to horse riding and white water rafting as well as plenty of shops for the ladies. This is why tourists love Dalaman, and why Dalaman property is very popular with overseas buyers.
