Turkey has grown into one of Europe’s most popular locations for golf holidays in recent years, not least because of its popularity with overseas property buyers and how the two seem to go hand in hand.
During the boom in overseas property buying in the past few years, as Turkey’s tourism hit into the 20millions, Turkish resort property became very popular with lifestyle buyers, and investors, with British buyers making up the largest portion of the market.
New resort style developments began to spring up across Turkey, and you can’t have world class holiday resorts without a golf-course nearby — if not on the resort. Put simply: if there wasn’t an existing golf course nearby, the developers built a new one.
These new courses often come with celebrity endorsements, and, even in some cases celebrity golfer designs — in Turkey’s case it is celebrity designs, including non-other than Colin Montgomerie.
The region of Belek, home to the Montgomerie designed course, is a particular favourite with Turkish golf tourists and as such the region is also becoming one of the most popular with property buyers.
“Belek is definitely a rising star in terms of Turkish golf, Turkish golf holidays and Turkish property,” said Julian Walker, director of Spot Blue, specialists in Turkey property.
“In fact we issued a press release recently on the rising popularity of property in Belek, which is now on a par with long popular Kemer,” he explained.
With Turkish tourism figures expected to hit 30million visitors this year, a large portion of which will be attributed to golf holidays, it seems that Belek’s rising popularity with property buyers is a trend destined to continue.
