Turkish Airlines Open Istanbul to Washington Route – Latest of Many

Posted on 13 November 2010

Turkish Airlines CEO Dr Temel Kotil has flown to Washington to cut the ribbon and officially launch the airline’s new landmark route between its hub at Istanbul Ataturk and Dulles airport in Washington.

The flight will run 6 times per week and connects with Turkish Airline’s star alliance partner United Airlines at its hub in Dulles.

Such hugely important flights in and out of Turkey continue to boost Turkish tourism according to Spot Blue.

“Turkish tourism has been rising for many years, and we keep seeing new flights and increasing frequency of flights, all of which keep visitor numbers going up. Then you have the succession of visa-free deals Turkey has agreed this year, all promising to increase tourism,” said Julian Walker, director of the firm.

Walker is referring not only to the new Ataturk Dulles route, but to the countless announcements we have heard in the last 18 months of new routes and increasing frequency of flights covering existing routes.

In the last year alone we have seen new flights from Glasgow to Dalaman, Birmingham to Antalya, Copenhagen to Antalya, Athens to Izmir and an announcement that Sun Express would increase weekly flights to Turkey by 32% in the summer of 2010.
