EU set to open two more chapters in Turkey’s accession negotiations
EU ambassadors, meeting in Brussels with Turkish EU ambassadors, meeting in Brussels with Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, gave the green light for talks to begin Friday on the “free movement of capital” and “information society and media”, EU presidency sources told AFP. (UPDATED)
The two new chapters will bring the total number of chapters opened to 10 out of 35, with only one successfully closed, since membership talks began in October 2005.
The EU has regularly opened only two chapters in Turkey’s accession negotiations in each presidency term. France hands the presidency to Czech Republic at the end of December.
The Czech Republic hopes to open two more chapters on Turkey in the first half of next year, Czech ambassador to the EU Milena Vicenova said this week.
