Richard Branson likes Turkey
Business prodigy Sir Richard Branson, in Istanbul for the first time, said Saturday he intends to enter the Turkish cellular phone market.
As a guest speaker at a leadership conference hosted by Turkcell, Turkey‘s largest cellular network operator said, “We want to launch a mobile phone company in Turkey and we will talk to our hosts here and see whether it is possible to do something together”.
Branson said that as part of Virgin’s strategy they will be strengthening ventures in existing markets and looking for new ones. In Turkey, Virgin will be mostly interested in cellular phones, but also other potential ventures, said Branson.
“We’re looking at Turkey and talking to people here about the cell phone business and we’ll talk to the sponsors of this conference,” said Branson. “And we’re looking at other businesses in Turkey where we think we can shake things up a bit.” Financial services and the health club sector were a few of the examples the businessman mentioned, and said they will try areas where they had success in Europe.
