Turkey is TESCOs Turkish delight.
Four years after marching into Turkey, Tesco will mark another step in its global expansion by opening its first supermarket in Ankara, the capital, next week.
Yet again, the retailer seems to have timed its move perfectly. An economic boom led by the retail sector is transforming a city that is coping with life in the shadow of Istanbul. A dozen shopping centres are on the drawing board, with retailers from Gucci and Diesel to Mothercare compete for the attentions of a population of ever-richer civil servants, politicians and the students who populate Ankaras ten universities.
Tescos 80,000 sq ft store in the city, with will be its 54th in Turkey.
