Turkey is Tops in Tourism
Of all OECD countries, Turkey ranked first as the country with the highest increase of foreign tourists between the years 1990 and 2005, with a 241.4 percent increase. The number of foreign tourists coming to Turkey increased from less than 10 million in 2000 to more than 21 million in 2005, according to the numbers of Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜIK).
The percentage increase of tourists during the same 15-year period among other OECD countries include a 142.4 percent increase for the number two placeholder New Zealand and a 136.8 percent increase for Spain (in 3rd place).The lowest ranked countries on the OECD list include the United Kingdom with a 1.9 percent increase, Denmark with a 3.3 percent increase and Switzerland – grabbing last place with a -18 percent decline in foreign tourists.
