Turkey: Istanbul traffic to ease with new bridge
Mehmet Turhan the General Manager for KGM (The General Directorate of Highways) has indicated DPT (The State Planning Organization) has given approval for tenders for the construction of the third Bosphorus bridge which will be held in February 2011.
Mr Turhan has estimated the costs will be 6 Billion USD for the bridge which will be tendered and constructed under BOT (build operate transfer) scheme.
The new bridge is expected to ease Istanbuls transit traffic especially the 20,000 large commercial vehicles that pass through Istanbul every day.
