UK owned Turkish retailer Migros opens 97 stores in Q1
ISTANBUL – Migros, Turkey’s biggest retailer, said on Tuesday it opened 97 stores in the first three months of the year, putting it in on track to meet its 2009 target of 400 new stores.
Migros, owned by UKs private equity firm BC Partners, now operates 1,288 stores around Turkey, according to an e-mailed statement from General Manager Ozgur Tort.
Migros previously said it plans to invest 250 million Turkish Lira ($158 million) and targets eight new store openings each week in 2009. BC Partner last year paid $1.596 billion for a 51 percent stake in Migros.
