Posted on 18 March 2011

Anna.Aero has just published a table of growth in traffic to Turkey’s airports, and it makes for very interesting reading.

According to the data Turkish airport traffic grew 10.8% year on year in January, and 17.5% (why does that number take me back to happier times) year on year in February.

The data shows that the Istanbul Sabiha Gocken airport is continuing the strong growth seen in 2010, according to the report, traffic through the airport grew by 27.3% in January, and 31.2% in February. Only the airport at Gaziantep (one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world) saw stronger growth over the two months.

Ankara came a close second with growths of 19.3% and 25.4% year on year respectively in January and February.

Buy to let investors who are considering the rapidly growing city of Izmir will be please to see that its airport saw traffic grow 10.1% year on year in January and 19.1% year on year in February.

From a holiday home investors perspective, Antalya and Bodrum were strong performers on the chart, with mediocre year on year growths of 4.2% and 6.5% in January, made up for by much stronger performances in February, when traffic grew by 19.1% and 22.4% respectively.
