Both of Istanbul‘s airports have won awards in the ANNIES 2011 by leading airport data collation service Anna.Aero. Istanbul Ataturk was joint winner of the "Airport with the most new non-European routes" award, having added 8 new routes and lost one to Islamabad in the last year. The new routes were as follows:
|New destination||Country||Carrier||Weekly frequency|
|Baghdad (BGW)||Iraq||Amsterdam Airlines||1|
|Guangzhou (CAN)||China||China Southern||3|
|Orlando Sanford (SFB)||USA||Arkefly||2|
|Puerto Plata (POP)||Dominican Republic||Arkefly||1|

Istanbul Sabiha Gocken finally gained some proper recognition of just how rapidly it is growing; winning the Airport Passenger Growth award for the 10 million+ category. Sabiha Gocken won the award with growth of 71% in the past year, compared to the 29.5% growth of second placed Moscow Sheremetyevo (SVO), with total passengers of 11.1 million and 19.1 million respectively.
This is another reason why the Istanbul property market is so hot. These are not just numbers these are expats, tourists and investors looking for property to rent and buy, businessmen looking for premises to rent and more reasons to increase flights and accessibility to the city to further fuel the cycle.
