22 May 2011 US hamburger chain Carl’s Jr has opened its first restaurant in Istanbul in the Cevahir Shopping Mall and aims to open a further 100 stores across Turkey.
Mr Ned Lyerly, senior vice chairman of US owned CKE Restaurants which operates both the Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s brands, said “Our eye was on Turkey for a long time,”, “With its big and young population, Turkey is a very attractive market for our sector. It is an exciting country. It really suits us,”
Lyerly said “We observed the market for six or seven years. We wanted to find the right partner and suppliers. We are using real meat and ingredients.” Lyerly went on to say “We want Turkey to become our gate to Europe,”
Carl’s Jr will use local ingredients with “Some 85 percent of what we use is supplied locally” said Lyerly
CKE Restaurants runs 3,159 restaurants internationally under the Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s brands and has international sales of over 3 Billion USD.
