Turkish Airlines has yet again racked up the accolades in the 2011 Skytrax Awards. This year Turkish Airlines won the awards for Best Airline Europe, Best Premium Economy Seats and Best Airline Southern Europe.
The Skytrax Awards also known as the Passengers Choice Awards surveyed 18.8 million air passengers over a 10 month period. Last year Turkish Airlines won the awards for Best Airline Southern Europe, and best quality in economy class for its in flight services operated by Turkish Do&Co. The Airline won the Skytrax World Aviation Award AKA the Oscar of the airline industry in 2009.
Earlier this year both Istanbul Airports (Ataturk and Sabiha Gocken) were recognised in the ANNIEs awards by Anna Aero. Istanbul Ataturk was joint winner of the “Airport with the most new non-European routes” award, having added 8 new routes and lost one to Islamabad in the last year. And Istanbul Sabiha Gocken won the airport passenger growth award in the 10 million+ category.
The Turkish airline industry is currently experiencing a double whammy boom, as affluence growing rapidly in the country is fuelling a boom in domestic air travel, while the raging tourism boom fuels an international air travel boom. Further, it is a self perpetuating boom, because increasing volume leads to increasing service, which allows further volume expansion. Watch this space as more routes are added around the world.
