28 June 2011 – Ford Otosan Turkey (a manufacturing joint venture between Ford and Koc Holding) will start to manufacture its new Cargo heavy truck in Turkey. The trucks are to be marketed and exported to 65 countries around the globe with special emphasis on taking market share in the heavy truck markets of Russia, the Middle East, East Europe, Central Asia and North Africa.
Although Ford was the first company to manufacture heavy trucks in Turkey in 1960, Ford withdrew from the truck market when it disposed of its truck division to Iveco in 1986. The new trucks will be manufactured at the in Ford Otosan Inonu plant in Eskisehir South East of Istanbul. According to Ford Otosan’s General Manager, Nuri Otay, the company has so far invested more than 400 Million USD in the Inonu plant with an additional 75 Million USD being invested for the new Cargo trucks.
