6 June 2011 – The west coast port of Izmir new ESB (Aegean Free Zone) is attracting new international investors. The ESBAS (Aegean Free Zone Development and Operating Company) officials have indicated that 16 international companies, including those from the US, Italy and Netherlands have been granted licenses since the beginning of 2011. Such companies as Cummins, the US diesel engine manufacturer, Pratt & Whitney, the US jet engine manufacturer and Fokker Elmo, the Dutch aerospace company are to operate in the Zone.
On completion the Zone is expected to employ 3,500 people. Manufactured good from the zone are exported to over 100 countries.
