5 July 2011 – According to the latest MasterCard Worldwide Global Destination Cities Index, Istanbul is forecasted to witness a 30% increase in tourism revenues in 2011. The Index has estimated Istanbul will receive 9.4 million foreign tourist who are expected to spend over 10 Billion USD.
The Destination Index is the result of 132 cities surveyed and put Istanbul ahead of such favourites as Rome, New York and Amsterdam.
Commenting on Istanbul, Yuwa Hedrick-Wong, one of Mastercard Worldwide economic advisors, said “Emboldened by last year’s “European Capital of Culture” title Istanbul will remain in the top 10 tourism destinations of the world for the next decade”.
