6 September 2011 – Turkey is to open new offices in Birmingham and Edinburgh reflecting Turkey’s decision to boost exports and trade between UK and Turkey and encourage UK’s investment into Turkey. Commenting on the new offices, Mr Yuksel Akca, Chief Commercial Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in London, said “Thus, we will serve Turks, Brits and companies that wish to invest in Turkey in the north, centre and south of the UK” adding “the U.K. is the seventh largest economy in the world, and ranks only after Germany in Europe. It is also the 10th biggest exporter and sixth biggest importer”. Despite the UK’s sluggish economic growth Acka said “Despite all odds in the general economy, our exports to the U.K. rose by 20 percent in the first seven months of this year. For many industrial products, the U.K. stands as the number one market for Turkey”. The Turkish Government has also recently increased the number of trade counsellors from the present 115 to 250 to share the opportunities of Turkey’s economic successes in the international business community.
