Posted on 05 October 2011

5 October 2011, Turkey – As part of Turkey’s plan to reduced imported energy supplies running up to Turkey’s centennial in 2023 it has been announced that Turkey’s first locally developed and manufactured wind turbine should come on stream by late 2012. The Turkish manufactured wind turbine has been developed by group of leading organisations including ITU (Istanbul Technical University), Sabanchi University, TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), TUSAŞ-TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries) and MILRES (The National Wind Energy System) among others. The first turbine will be 500 KW and has been in the development stage for some two and a half years at a cost of over 25 million USD. A larger 2,500 KW turbine is expected to be completed by 2014. Turkey aims to have 20,000 MW of installed capacity by the centennial. Source: Invest in Turkey
