Southern Turkey opens largest Eastern Med marina

29 November 2011, Ankara – Mr Binali Yildrim, the Turkish Minister of Transportation, Maritime and Communications has opened the largest Eastern Med yacht marina in the southern Turkish town of Mersin. The marina has cost 100 million TRY (About 54 million USD) and can berth up to 1,000 boats. Mr Yildrim said the marina complex, which includes which also food courts and shopping malls, will become a recreational centre for Mersin and will create an estimated 4,000 local jobs. The project was built as on a BOT model (Build – Operate- Transfer) with finance from both public and private sectors. The Turkish Minister of Economy, Mr Zafer Caglayan, and the Turkish Minister of Minister of Food, Agriculture and Husbandry, Mr Mehdi Eker, also attended the opening in Mersin.
