6 January 2012, Istanbul – In 2011 Turkey received over 30 million visitors making it the 7th most popular destination in the world. Of this 30 million 8 million people visited the stunning city of Istanbul according its Culture and Tourism department number. This number shows an increase of over 16 percent over the 6.9 million visitors in 2010. Emre Bilgili, the director of the Istanbul Culture and Tourism said “Despite the financial crisis in Europe and political turmoil in the Middle East, Istanbul has had a successful year in tourism terms. A 16 percent increase in foreign visitors is a remarkable success in view of the circumstances” Source: Invest in Turkey Commenting on the news, David Walker, Chairman of Spot Blue and Vice Chairman of Turkish British Chamber of Commerce & Industry, said “With such a beautiful and vibrant city I am truly not surprised by the increase, its a city everyone should visit sometime in their life”.
