Internet investors looking at Turkey

Istanbul, 24 February 2012 – Turkey’s online sector is attracting the eyes of the investors with a range of global companies buying in Turkey; South Africa’s Naspers has taken a majority stake in the e-commerce site Markafoni; eBay has bought online marketplace GittiGidiyor; has taken a stake in the flower retailer Çiçek Sepeti and the leading Russian search engine Yandex is expected to open up in Turkey. Turkey has 35 million Internet users (out of a population of over 75 million with 70 percent are under 34) giving Turkey the fifth largest Internet audience in Europe. The young Turks have also encompassed social media being in the top five audiences for Facebook and top ten for Twitter.
