Unilever breaks ground on its new plant in Turkey

Istanbul, 6 June 2012 – Unilever started construction of its new 100 million USD factory in Konya in Turkey’s Central Anatolia Region. The factory will be used for the production of Unilever’s Turkish ice cream brand “Algida” for its domestic and MENA region dales. This is Algida’s second Turkish plant (and Unilever’s 8th inTurkey) and due to come on stream in 2013. Commenting on the new factory Izzet Karaca, Unilever Turkey’s chief executive officer, said “The plant will be the first LEED certified ice cream factory, upholding to the highest standards of environmental friendly production techniques”. He went on to say “The great progress taking place in Anatolia is closely watched and supported by Unilever as witnessed with the groundbreaking of this production plant in Konya” adding “This investment sets a very good example of trust and confidence in Turkey and creates a convincing case for other foreign investors”.
