Raising its profile as a city that offers world-class shopping, Istanbul’s landmark Maltepe Park shopping centre reopened in September after a 19-month overhaul with the assistance of global supermarket group Carrefour SA.
The transformation of Maltepe Park, located in the city’s Maltepe district on the eastern bank of the Bosphorus, will be a shot in the arm for the local area and its property market, which is already enjoying strong growth. The real estate markets of neighbouring districts, such as Kadıköy and Kartal, should also benefit. Maltepe has good access to the centre of Istanbul via the E5 road and the new shopping centre includes a new metro station.
Maltepe Park now features a selection of modern-design spaces and 140 new shops, including an Apple Store and stores in the Inditex group, as well as other services, including restaurants. In partnership with the city, Carrefour SA redesigned the site of Maltepe Park as a major urban promenade, featuring outside landscaped terraces and pedestrian walkways, and a new 11,000-square-metre office block, which is where Carrefour’s new head office is located.
Key architectural changes at Maltepe Park include: an extension of the shopping arcade by 39,000 square metres and creation of two extra levels; the complete renovation of 20,000 square metres of existing arcade; the remodelling of the Carrefour hypermarket and its 10,400 square metres of sales area; and the addition of two levels to the underground car park, giving 800 extra parking spaces.
