Rough Guides includes holiday home hot spots in its ‘not to miss’ list for Turkey

Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, Turkey’s picturesque south-west coast, a walk between Ölüdeniz and Antalya, and a beach near Kalkan all feature as highlights of a visit to Turkey, according to the latest edition of the Rough Guide to Turkey.

Situated inside the walled city of Istanbul, in the Faith district, the Grand Bazaar is a shopping experience like no other. One of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, it comprises more than 60 covered streets and 3,000 shops. Investors shopping for great value property should look in the growing Istanbul suburbs, where apartments are available for less than £50,000 in districts such as Beylikduzu.

The length of coastline highlighted by Rough Guides begins at Bodrum and ends at Finike, a stretch popular with sailors for its clear waters, and unspoilt beaches and coves. The town of Bodrum and other resorts on the Bodrum Peninsula, such as Yalikavak, are some of Turkey’s most desirable second home spots, popular with wealthy Turks as well as the international jet set. Prices there can range from less than £50,000 for an apartment to more than £2million for a luxury villa in prime location.

The famous Lycian Way is named after the ancient region of Lycia and meanders approximately 510 kilometres, from Ölüdeniz, near Fethiye, to Hisarcandir, about 20 kilometres from Antalya. Ölüdeniz is home to the pretty Blue Lagoon, and together with Fethiye and its surrounding villages is popular with British second homeowners. Meanwhile, the only beach to feature in the Rough Guides ‘not to miss’ list in Turkey is Patara Beach, which at 18-kilometres long is one of the longest beaches in the Mediterranean. It’s near the pretty resort of Kalkan, a sought after holiday home destination.
