National carrier Turkish Airlines, the world’s fourth largest in terms of destinations, recorded a 14.3 per cent year-on-year hike in the number of passengers it has carried in 2014 to the end of September.
According to recent figures, Turkish Airlines passenger numbers reached 41.4 million by the end of September this year, with a passenger occupancy rate of 79.7 per cent.
Comparing September 2014 with September 2013, the number of destinations the airline flies to rose to 260 from the 239. Broken down, the number of domestic destinations grew to 43 from 42 and the number of international destinations 217 from 197. And during the same period, the carrier’s fleet grew to 265 from 233. This is positive news for Turkey’s real estate market as it indicates foreign interest in the country remains strong.
Meanwhile, on 26th October Turkish Airlines is set to begin direct flights from Istanbul to Estonia’s capital Tallinn and Lithuania’s capital Vilnius. The starting price for an all-inclusive round trip to Tallinn and Vilnius, which is regarded as the second largest city in the Baltic region after Latvian capital Riga, is €179. At the same time, the airline is increasing the frequency of flights between Istanbul and Malta.
Turkish Airlines has also improved its social media and entertainment offering. It has partnered with Universal Music Group to allow passengers to access songs, albums videos and live music content. ‘My Music Planet’, the music platform created by Turkish Airlines, will give passengers access to specially prepared content including audio and video playlists, teasers, concert videos, music news, behind the scenes footage and short videos. At the same time, the airline has launched a new app for Windows Phone. The official Turkish Airlines app is available for free in the Windows Phone Store and allows you to buy tickets, check flight status and much more.
