Celebrity chef Stein to bring the taste of Turkey to Britain’s TV screens

Fans of Turkey and its colourful lifestyle will enjoy a new TV series covering Turkish food and hosted by TV chef Rick Stein, which is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC 2 next year.

Turkey’s well known for its beaches, sunshine and exciting culture, and Stein’s new series will help to open more people’s eyes to its cuisine too. Eating out and shopping at local food markets, packed with fresh fruit and veg, and meat and fish, are another perk of visiting and owning a property in Turkey.

The BBC’s new five-part series, called Rick Stein: From Venice to Istanbul, will focus on food in the areas around the Aegean Sea, including Greece, and will air next year. It follows on from Stein’s other hit series, such as Rick Stein’s Taste of the Sea, Far Eastern Odyssey, Rick Stein’s Spain and Rick Stein’s India.

Stein has filmed in Turkey before, when he produced his Mediterranean Escapes series. One of his popular recipes from that series was Turkish spicy flatbread.

Who knows, if he likes the country enough and sees what great value for money Turkish property is, he may decide to bag himself a bolt-hole along the Turkish coastline, perhaps in Kalkan, a pretty resort known for its choice of quality restaurants and where a food festival is held each year, or Fethiye with its popular food market. Otherwise, next time you dine out at one of Stein’s restaurants, look out for a Turkish dish on the menu – and try it!
