Turkish Flights and Air Travel Continue to Soar

New data from the State Airports Management General Directorate (DHMİ) released on Friday shows that airline traffic at Turkey's airports increased by 7.6 percent in June over the same month last year.

According to the data the number of passengers also went up by 12.9 percent in June year-on-year, with 17.1 percent growth taking domestic passengers up to 7.1 million, while the number of international passengers rose by 9.5 percent to about 8.1 million in the same month. Combined with the number of transit passengers, the number of international passengers was about 15.2 million in June.

On top of that the number of flights increased by 8.5% to 688,225 in the first half of the year, with passengers up 15.1% to 66.5 million during the same period.

At the same time, the number of domestic flights increased by 7.7 percent to 60,279 in June compared to the same month a year ago, while international flights went up by 7.5 percent to 56,140 over same period.

Meanwhile the report also said that 24,877 flights flew across Turkish airspace in June, making for a total of 141,296 flights flying into or out of Turkey, an increase of 6.28 percent. In addition, air cargo traffic also increased by 11.8 percent in June for domestic flights, reaching a total of 67,349, and by 11.3 percent for international flights with 175,168.
