It is just a ten minute walk to the sea, yet it is tucked away in a peaceful and tranquil area of this upmarket resort.
What is the area like?
Bodrum Peninsula is situated on the South West coast of Turkey, surrounded by 32 islands and islets. The Peninsula covers an area of 649 square kilometres with a population of 120,000.
Today, Bodrum has changed and grown, and each of the Peninsula towns has its own centre and hub with restaurants and shops, all of differing character, with local markets in each of the Peninsula resorts, so no need to travel far for your local fruit and veg.
Boat trips are popular excursions here, as there are so many islands to explore and bays in which to swim  – usually food and drink is included, and a day out at sea is the perfect way to unwind.
Where is the hotel?
This wonderful hotel is located in Golturkbuku, approximately a 20 minute walk from the coastal town of Turkbuku. It is just 150 metres from the nearest beach, and 18 kilometres from the main city centre of Bodrum, with easy access along the main highway. There are plenty of local amenities including grocery stores, restaurants and night clubs as well other local shops and public transportation services all of which are within easy walking distance.
What is the hotel like?
The hotel was designed in 1990 by renowned Turkish architects Belkis and Haluk Somer and decorated by Gulsun Karamustafa one of Turkey’s celebrated artists and filmmakers. Today, most of this decoration is still there, as the current owners have retained and cared for all this celebrated work, throughout the grounds and bedrooms alike. Attention to detail can be seen throughout.
The hotel itself is modelled on Bodrum Castle, it is made up of four separate stone built blocks, set in lovely mature gardens, courtyard area and central swimming pool, restaurant, and bar area close to the swimming pool, and sat behind the two main blocks are the secret gardens, a delight in the summer months.
Here you will find orchards of mandarin, fig and pomegranate trees. The owners have also planted many more fruit tree and flowers. Tucked into this corner is a lovely thatched area with small bar and seating area, perfect for chilling after a day around the pool in a rural setting.
The property is walled all around, gated with a long driveway and paved to the front for car parking. A small moat was carved into the front of the hotel under a drawbridge gate, which leads to the main entrance. Everything is in keeping with Bodrum style, rustic corners, white stone buildings, shuttered windows and wooden balconies.
The reception block is small and modern and perfect for this Boutique hotel, above this are three rooms, one of which is a small one bedroom apartment, with separate lounge/kitchen area, it could be used for hotel or staff, a further two rooms have en-suite facilities.
The next block close to the swimming pool, houses the restaurant / bar area with an overflow area to place table and chairs close to the swimming pool, ideal for the evenings. Above this block is a conference room and large terrace area, plus there is a games room here too. This block could be expanded and a further 10/12 en-suite bedrooms could be added to the upper floors, without having to obtain planning permission, there is a lot of potential to expand.
The two main blocks house 15 bedrooms, and are spread over three floors, access is by stairs, each are individually decorated with different designs. All with en-suite facilities, some with traditional balcony areas and all are air conditioned and of a good size.
Summary:
It is one of only four similar Boutique Hotels in the area, but has unique local Bodrum character and feel, plus there is a bar/restaurant license in place.
The current owners have had this hotel since 2002 and have run the business successfully themselves. Taking a few years out between 2008/2018, when it was rented out, but are currently running it again. It is time for them to retire now, the business is still trading until a new buyer is found.
