Richard Getting to a second home on the Costa Blanca from the UK has never been so cheap, after Thomson’s this month announced return flights to the regional gateway Alicante from just £39.
Alicante is one of Spain’s key tourist airports, bringing visitors and homeowners to the Costa Blanca from the UK and across northern Europe. It is convenient for a host of resorts, including Torrevieja, Villamartin, Cabo Roig and La Zenia in the south and Moraira, Javea and Denia in the north.
Recent statistics for air traffic confirm that Alicante’s airport is on course for another record-breaking year, overtaking the figures from last year. Passenger numbers have risen over 16 per cent compared to last year, with 1.14 million passengers passing through the airport in May alone, bringing the year to date figure to 4.19 million. Should the numbers carry on at the same rate, it’s expected that 11.5 million passengers will pass through the regions airport this year.
ABTA confirmed recently that in 2016 holidaymakers were favouring established European destinations over countries deemed to have security risks, including Egypt and Tunisia. The Costa Blanca will be one destination benefiting from this trend.
Meanwhile, adding to the extensive choice of services to Alicante, British Airways has launched a new leisure service there from London City. The new flights to the heart of Spain’s Costa Blanca will operate four times a week for 10 weeks from the end of June. It will be the seventh Spanish route for British Airways at London City, where flights already operate to Madrid, Malaga, Palma, Ibiza and Menorca in addition to Granada, which is the only direct air link from the UK to the Andalucian airport.
