Guide to Javea
Beautiful Javea otherwise known as Xabia is located at the foot of the Montgo protected Natural Park. The Montgo Massif is the highest mountain in the area and stands at a staggering 753 m (2,470 ft) and offers shelter to Javea during the cooler months. Javea is often referred to as the “pearl of the Costa Blanca” and the “jewel called Javea” and rightly so! Picturesque beaches adorn this coastline and with an average year round temperature of 20ºC it makes it the ideal holiday destination. This small historic town was once an ancient fishing village it has retained its traditional charm and the atmosphere is tranquil and relaxed. Located in Alicante the delightful old town and the main beach area are known as The Port and the Arenal and this is the hub for entertainment it’s sheltered between two rocky headlands and sits behind a wide bay. Alicante is a mere 90 minute drive away and on a clear day, the Balearic Island of Ibiza can be seen as it lies just 90km (56 miles) away to the east.
The closest airport to Javea is Alicante airport with daily international flights, Javea is only 52 miles from the airport, which is around an hour’s journey, via shuttle bus, hire car or taxi transfers. The climate is typically Mediterranean there is a cool sea breeze which makes sunbathing pleasant and sightseeing enjoyable. There are around 3000 hours of sunshine per year it’s the ideal location for families, couples and groups of friends to enjoy a holiday in the sunshine and recharge those batteries.
Many visitors to Javea go for the wonderful beaches however there is plenty to do around the town itself. History and culture buffs will enjoy this town and a must visit is to The San Bartolemé church in the centre of the town and is a superb example of gothic architecture, it is rich in history with its beautiful Tosca stone porticoes, wrought iron and gothic style windows. The archaeological museum called The Soler Blasco which is close by will delight you for an afternoon.
A day at the Port and Marina gives you the chance to enjoy the views and watch the world go by and if you love fish dishes you are in for a treat as there are some excellent fish restaurants where you can sample the catch of the day. Take a boat trip and enjoy the view from the Mediterranean taking in the magnificent coastline. There are an array of sports on offer at the yacht club; you can try water sports, fishing, sailing, water skiing, scuba diving and windsurfing, elsewhere, golfing, tennis and horse riding to name a few. If you love to shop you won’t be disappointed with an array of shops, trendy boutiques, local crafts and the covered market selling local fresh produce. On the outskirts of Javea you can visit the ancient monastery of Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles. Javea and the surrounding area of Alicante have so much history and culture to offer, you will be spoilt for choice.

There is plenty of entertainment in Javea with many festivals which include dancing, parades, music, fireworks and delicious food. Bars include sports bars, jazz and piano bars to upmarket cocktail bars, family friendly bars and restaurants where the entertainment is family focused with karaoke nights. You can dress up or dress down, get your dancing shoes on and dance the night away at one of the trendy discos and nightclubs, the choice is yours!
